What is Boda Borg?

Boda Borg is a huge adventure world where you team up in groups of 3 to 5 people to tackle various real-life “Quests” featuring multiple levels and numerous challenges. It’s all about cleverness, skill, physical effort, nerves of steel, and above all, strong teamwork. You can move freely across 3,000 square meters and try the various Quests as you please. Boda Borg is an exciting and completely unique leisure attraction in the Ruhr region for friends, families, and teams.

A “Quest” is a mission or adventure full of challenges for your team at Boda Borg. In spectacularly designed settings, we transport you to other worlds: they’re called, for example, “Scary Movie,” “Häng & Kläng,” “Alcatraz,” or “Dansa Pausa.” Each Quest consists of several rooms—the next door only opens once you’ve successfully mastered a challenge. If you make mistakes, you’re out and have to start over. Failure is part of the fun at Boda Borg.

We currently have 23 different Quests at Boda Borg in Bochum, each with its own theme and setting— jungle, forest, pharaoh’s tomb, a fun dance battle, horror movie theater, and much more. You can find an overview of all the Quests here on the website. New Quests will be added regularly.

There are three categories of Quests, which you can identify by their color coding:

Green = Quests that require cleverness

Red = Cleverness and agility

Black = Real physical snd sportive effort

Teamwork is crucial for all Quests. At least three people must participate to solve the Quests by performing tasks at different locations simultaneously or one after another. You cannot solve them alone!

When you visit Boda Borg, you can try ALL the Quests. You don’t have to choose just one Quest.

Boda Borg is an adventure designed for teams of at least 3 people. Unfortunately, for technical reasons, you cannot play Boda Borg alone or in pairs. So you’ll need to gather a team of at least 3 people. There is a maximum of 5 spots per team; if there are more of you, we’ll split you into several teams.

We are an exciting leisure attraction for a fun-filled day with friends, colleagues, your company, club, or family, and we’re also ideal for team-building.

We recommend visiting from age 12 and up: at this age, you’re able to complete the Quests without adult supervision. The absolute minimum age is 7! Children aged 7 to 9 must always play with their parents; for children aged 10 to 11, an adult must be present on-site as a point of contact. There is no upper age limit.

You don’t need to be particularly athletic or strong, as you can use the color code to decide whether you want to play only Quests that test cleverness and agility, or those that also require real physical effort.

We’re located in Bochum at Ruhr Park, right in the heart of the Ruhr region. Whether you’re coming from Bochum itself, or from Dortmund, Essen, Gelsenkirchen, Herne, Witten, Recklinghausen, Bottrop, Witten, Duisburg, Mühlheim — we’re super easy to get to!

NO! Boda Borg is not about escaping from a room like in a classic Escape Room. On the contrary: if you get kicked out of the room, you’ve done something wrong. So you’re never locked in and can leave the rooms at any time. In fact, you’ll often have to do just that, because failure is part of the experience. Your goal is to master tasks and missions as a team to advance to the next level (i.e., the next room) and solve further tasks—until you finally receive the stamp of success in the last room.

About my booking

Unfortunately, no. Boda Borg is a team game. Technically speaking, the Quests can’t be completed by just two people. You have to be 3 people at least. But we are sure you’ll find someone else who’s up for this adventure!

You can choose between 2-hour and 4-hour tickets. During your booked time slot, you’re free to explore our adventure world and try out all the Quests freely.

A 2-hour Questing session costs 29 Euros per person, and a 4-hour session costs 40 Euros per person. You can upgrade from 2 to 4 hours on site if you want to stay longer and we still have available spots – you will only pay the difference (11 Euros).

The price is the same for everyone. Special offers are available for school groups on weekday mornings.

Please book your ticket in advance here on the website to secure your spot. To do so, select your preferred date and time, the duration you’d like (2 or 4 hours), and the number of people in your group (a minimum of 3 people is required). Then enter your details and proceed to payment. You can also pay on-site upon arrival if, for example, you’d like to split the payment. That’s it!

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of your booked Quest time to allow enough time for check-in and a briefing. Let’s get started!

Cancellations are accepted up to 24 hours before the scheduled time.

If you are struggleing with the language of this page just write us an email via bochum@bodaborg.de – we are happy to help.

If you’d like to—and are able to—pay online at the time of booking, that’s great and the easiest and fastest way to avoid waiting times when you arrive. However, since you always come as a group, we understand that sometimes you’d prefer to split the payment. Therefore, you can also pay for your booking upon arrival if that works better for you. Please note that cancellations are only possible up to 24 hours before the booked date.

Cancellations are free of charge up to 24 hours before your visit.

If we still have spots available, it’s easy to do: Just come to the ticket counter and we’ll extend your ticket by 2 hours. You’ll only pay the difference between your current ticket and the 4-hour ticket, which is 11 Euros.

About my visit

We are located in the covered section of Westfield Ruhr Park Bochum, where the UCI cinema is also located, behind the “Via Bartolo” food court and next to Karstadt. The nearest parking lots are P4 and P6. The best entrance is the one by the UCI, next to the bus stop.

Ruhr Park is located just outside Bochum, right in the heart of the Ruhr region. Whether you’re coming from Bochum itself, or from Dortmund, Essen, Gelsenkirchen, Herne, Witten, Recklinghausen, Bottrop, Witten, Duisburg, Mühlheim — we’re super easy to reach from all corners of the Ruhr region and North Rhine-Westphalia!

You book your ticket for your team and your preferred date in advance online on our website to secure your spot. You can pay online or on-site. A team always consists of 3 to 5 people; if there are more of you, we’ll split you into multiple teams. However, you’ll never be mixed with strangers. Please note that, for technical reasons, it’s not possible to play a Quest with just two people!

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of your booked Quest time to allow enough time for check-in and orientation.

After you arrive and pay, you’ll receive a stamp card to track your Quest achievements. Then you’ll get an orientation to the Quests via a detailed video and additional information. And then you’re off: During your booked time, you can move freely across over 3,000 square meters and two floors and try out all the Quests.

You’ll rarely complete a Quest on your first try—failure is part of the fun. If you get kicked out, just try again. It’s like a video game, only real.

After your Quest time, feel free to refuel with food and drinks at our Basecamp.

Yes, you can park in the parking lots and parking garages at Ruhr Park. The parking garage that offers the quickest access to Boda Borg is P4 or P6.

Be sure to wear clean, flat, comfortable shoes, such as sneakers. Since some Quests require physical activity—such as crawling, jumping or climbing—we strongly recommend durable, comfortable, and appropriate clothing, for example athletic wear.

Yes, we have lockers so you can store your jackets, backpacks, and other belongings and move around freely. The lockers are free to use and operate with a numeric code that you choose yourself.

Of course, we have restrooms. However, there are no changing rooms or showers.

In principle, that’s possible. Our green Quests, for example, don’t require any physical exertion and are purely mental challenges. Some red Quests should also be manageable—for instance, you might just have to climb a few stairs. But feel free to ask our staff on-site which Quest is suitable for you. You can also stop at any time and exit the Quest through the exit if you feel it’s becoming too strenuous. Ultimately, of course, you’ll need to decide for yourself based on how you’re feeling what you can and can’t do, or consult your doctor before your visit if necessary.

Our Quests are not fully accessible. However, some can be played by people with physical limitations, and in some cases even by those in wheelchairs (depending on physical abilities and wheelchair model). Additionally, people with hearing impairments and color blindness, for example, can play many of our Quests. Please feel free to contact us by email or phone before your visit—we’d be happy to provide personalized advice.

Our lounge (“Basecamp”) is accessible and easily reached by elevator, and of course we also have an accessible restroom. Anyone who comes to Boda Borg solely as a companion—not participating in the Quests but staying only in the Basecamp—does not have to pay admission.

With a “B” disability ID card, the companion can play with us for free.

No. Most Quests don’t require any spoken language at all and rely solely on symbols. A few Quests do use words or spoken language, but always in German and English. The introductory video is available in German and English, and our team speaks many languages—just let us know, and depending on availability, we can also offer a briefing in other languages (e.g., French, Spanish, Dutch, Turkish…). English is always an option.

Yes, our base camp has a self-service station where you can grab a bite to eat, grab some snacks, and get a drink.

We ask that you not bring your own food or drinks.

The Quests take place in enclosed rooms and can’t be seen from the outside. So there isn’t much to watch. But if you’re there as a companion and don’t want to play yourself, you can buy food and drinks at our Basecamp, use the Wi-Fi, and hang out there. But honestly: just give it a try. Boda Borg really has something for everyone!

Yes, absolutely! Nothing brings a class together quite like Boda Borg! Here, students learn a wide range of social and problem-solving skills, such as teamwork, developing strategies together, solving problems, but also failing together without shame—and triumphing together! That’s why Boda Borg is an ideal addition to the curriculum for school classes starting in 4th grade.

Yes! School groups can play here Monday through Friday at a discounted rate: 2 hours for €17.00 (instead of €29.00) and 4 hours for €25.00 (instead of €40.00). Two teachers may accompany the group free of charge. You can find more information about our school program here on the website or just write us an email and we are happy to help with information in English.

Yes, that is possible. Please keep in mind, however, that we are not exclusively a children’s attraction; we also host many groups of adults. We recommend that visitors be at least 12 years old, as children of this age are capable of completing the Quests without adult supervision.

The absolute minimum age is 7 years! Children aged 7 to 9 must always play with their parents; for children aged 10 to 11, an adult must be present on the premises as a point of contact.

Under these conditions, the active part of a birthday party can also take place here. After your adventure, you’re welcome to refuel with food and drinks from our selection at our Basecamp and wrap up the celebration there.
